25 Weeks Old

It is hard to believe that it was just twenty five Saturdays ago that Ryan and Hailey were born. Our sense of time has been completely altered by all that has happened during these weeks.

During this past week Hailey has been putting her hands together. She has even gone as far as to unclench her fists and lace her fingers together.

Cold Again

Another cold start to the morning meant another school closing. This time however the call came at 11pm last night.

Grandma Rachel and Grandpa Ken spent their second full day taking care of Hailey. Sadly they somehow manage to get more done around our house when they are here on Friday than we do during the week. I think Hailey's laundry was in the wash before we were out the door.

5am Call

With the cold weather this morning, -21 F for a low and -4 for a high, the local school district shut down for the day. Since Hailey is a "student," receiving her occupational therapy through the district, we are now on the list to receive important announcements. So a little past 5am our phone rang with an automated call giving us the good news. Just another unexpected introduction to parenting.

Early Childhood Session #3

The occupational therapist liked the improved strength she saw in Hailey's neck. A week ago Hailey was always turning her head to her left, now we seem to be back to random left vs. right and are seeing her keep her head mid-line much more.

She also watched as I fed her and said Hailey scored an A+. She noted that Hailey was keeping a tight seal on the bottle, keeping her from swallowing air, and that she did a great job of pacing and breathing.

The goal for next week is to work with her on tracking objects.

Tears

Despite all the crying we hear each day there had not to date been any tears. Born with blocked tear ducts, like almost all babies, Hailey's crying has been limited to the verbal screams with the waterworks turned off. Tonight however, we saw her first tear come out of her right eye and stream down her face. Ironically she was not crying much at the time, just a little whimpering when her pacifier was not positioned just to her liking.

First Major Spit Up of '09

Hailey had a major spit up today. She was propped up enough that if it was reflux related it really could not have been prevented. It has been over a month since she has spit up this much where the incident did not involve her lying flat at the time for either a diaper change or play time.

Bathtub

Hailey was babysat by her grandparents this morning so we could go to church. Afterwords we stopped off and picked up some items at Babies R Us, including a bathtub. She still just fits in the 11.5" x 9.5" x 4.5" tub from the hospital but it is getting pretty cramped.
