New Year's Eve 2009

The last few nights Hailey has not wanted to have her teeth brushed for her but has been willing to do it herself. So far there is more chewing of bristles than actual teeth brushing but having her want to do it herself is a step in the right direction.

Unlike a year ago, Hailey was asleep long before midnight.

Toy Swap

This morning Hailey woke up to having her toys scrambled. Her three major grouping of toys, her bedroom, the living room, and at Grandma and Grandpa's, were all jumbled up after she went to bed last night. She really enjoyed having her talking/singing puppy and airplane at Grandma and Grandpa's house.

Sippy Cup - Success

A breakthrough tonight: for the first time Hailey finished a whole bottle's worth (5 ounces) of milk in her sippy cup.

Hailey climbed the entire set of stairs tonight without any coaxing. The gate arrives tomorrow. While we are excited about her learning to climb the stairs, turning around to find she is already several steps up on her own needs to come to an end.

Wrapping Paper

Grandma saved the wrapping paper from Christmas Eve so that Hailey got one last chance to play with colorful paper.

Hailey is seen playing above with her new toy cellphone which is only slightly clunkier than the six year old real phones her parents use.

Toys in Boxes

Hailey's Christmas gifts started to come out of their boxes today. While she waited for that to be taken care of she enjoyed playing with them box and all. The boxes all have open sides so you can reach in and touch the toys which made them almost as fun to play with as is.

Seventeen Months

Today Hailey turned seventeen months old.

The "storm" is now over leaving a thick sheet of ice over everything.

Hailey had her third non-routine day in a row as Grandma and Grandpa came over for the evening. Throughout these past three days Hailey has done really well with no major crying spells and an overall willingness to flow with the changes in schedules.

Christmas 2009

The "storm" picked up again this morning with very heavy/wet snow, some of the heaviest I have ever shoveled. By noon it changed into sleet and eventually rain.

This morning Hailey got her first extended look at the Christmas tree. She crawled at full speed across the living room when she was let loose. Thankfully she ended up being very gentle with the tree. She tugged at individual strands of tinsel, examining it carefully in her hands. She crawled around the back side and spent a few minutes sitting in the corner just looking up.

Then her attention switched to the gifts, where she tested the strength of several bows and ribbons. A few ribbons and tags required reattaching.

When her Grandpa Bruce, Uncle Craig and Aunt Terrie arrived Hailey got shy for a few minutes, retreating into the dining room. Soon she was back in the living room and enjoyed spending the day with Christine's family.

Christmas Eve 2009

Tonight we celebrated Christmas at my parents. While Hailey was not an expert at opening presents she had a lot of fun playing with bows and ribbons. She seemed to like her gifts as well but the pile of wrapping paper was equally exciting.

Grandma was excited to give Hailey a doll that crawls. Hailey was intrigued but not quite sure what to make of it.

The much hyped potentially biggest Christmas snowstorm in 50 years did arrive with five to six inches overnight but the snowfall during the day did not amount to much.
