Trust on the Swing

For the first time tonight while swinging Hailey did not "have to" be holding onto the chain. She and I swung together for several minutes and she looked all around but made no effort to grab the chain. This was a big change from all other times on the swing when the first thing she did was make sure she had a good grip and then she would not let go until we were done. I'm not sure if she is trusting me more, less scared, or simply grown bored with holding on.

Beef

Hailey had her first taste of meat today although I'm not sure she noticed it in the cocktail that is "Vegetable Beef Dinner": Carrots, Water, Beef, Sweet Potatoes, Tomato Puree (Water, Tomato Paste), Rice Flower, Split Green Peas, and Onion Powder.

Barley

Hailey's new food today was Barley cereal. She still gets breast milk and formula mixed in her five bottles a day and is eating a fruit and/or vegetable, followed by cereal twice a day.

This afternoon Hailey went a stretch on the Gateway Trail for the first time. It was her first stroller ride where she really objected to staying in the stroller so she was carried for long stretches.

Bouncing in Exersaucer

Hailey bounced in her Exersaucer for the first time. The fun of the spring loaded legs had eluded her until today. I'm not sure if she just figured it out, or finally has enough strength or finally weighs enough, or if it is a combination of all three. Whatever the reason, she had a great time enjoying this new feature of her toy.

Brown and Pink Retired

Hailey wore her size 3 month brown and pink outfit for the last time this morning. This was her third and largest sized version of the same outfit that she has been wearing since the NICU. She moved up from the Preemie to the Newborn version on December 5th and then to this latest size on May 30th.

This evening Hailey got food in her eye for the first time. She got in a good swipe at a spoonful of carrots and it went everywhere. A little saline cleared out her eye but her eyelashes had a bit of an orange hue for the rest of the evening.

Early Childhood Session #23

Today's Early Childhood Session was with both OT and a teacher. The teacher observed how she interacted with various toys. At first Hailey was quite shy, having only seen the teacher one other time, and she did not really move from her sitting position to interact. I got out a can of Mountain Dew and that got her moving. In no time she and the teacher had hit it off.

A few of Hailey's favorite toys (seen in the top picture) have been loaners from her occupational therapist. Since she has outgrown them it was time to give them back. The red, yellow and blue gears was one of the first toys that Hailey would consistently track as we moved it around her.

The egg shaped chicken was by far her favorite toy from the time she got it until she started to crawl. Back in February I tired to find her one of "her own" but it is a long since discontinued item. Now she truly has outgrown it, ignoring it most of the time, so it was only right to let another baby make use of it.

Crawling on Knees

When Hailey crawls most of her body stays on the ground as she is not up on her knees. For the last week or so she has been getting up on her knees to rock back and forth and look around but then drops to the floor to crawl.

Tonight Hailey managed to make her first forward movements up on her knees to begin several of her crawling sessions before returning to the floor.
