Saint Patrick's Day, Early Childhood Session #41

Two years ago when we learned on Saint Patrick's Day that Christine was having twins we went out to eat completely forgetting things might be a little crazy being a holiday.

Today Saint Patrick's Day still does not fly high to the top of our radar but we did manage to remember to put Hailey in green for the second year in a row.

Also appropriately Hailey said "green" today as well as "on."

Hailey had an occupational therapy session today.

Hailey wore sunglasses today at Grandma and Grandpa's, essentially for the first time. Last year her face was just too small for the glasses so they only went on as a quick lived experiment once or twice. Today she wore them for an extended period without complaint.

Boom, Purple, and Tongue

Hailey's new words today were boom, purple, and tongue.

Artwork

Above is a picture that Hailey has been working on for the past month. It has been taped to the counter and every so often we pull her highchair up to it to color. Tonight it accidentally got wet so we decided to consider the masterpiece complete.

One new challenge with feeding Hailey is her desire to feed herself. Or more accurately, her desire not to be fed. Often she no longer wants to be spoon fed, insisting that she feed herself. That would be fine if she would then eat but sometimes she just sits there. Eventually tonight she forgot about not wanting to be fed and let Christine feed her.

After supper Hailey and I went for our first trip out to the swings this year.

Grilling

With the warmest day of the year so far with a high of 64 we went for a stroller walk and had our lunch out on the patio. Our once eight foot pile of snow over the pond continued to melt down as we ate.

Return to the Zoo

Today was Hailey's first trip to the Minnesota Zoo since a warm day in November. We limited ourselves to the outdoor exhibits to avoid viruses. (Hundreds of small children in tight indoor spaces never used to scare me...)

Hailey's favorite animals were the bears. As soon as she saw them she said "bee," her word for her stuffed bears at home. Despite knowing at home that different animals make different sounds, she kept saying "ruff - ruff" for everything from the bears to the prairie dogs.

New words today: deer, for pictures in a Snow White book, not the real deer at the zoo, and glasses, for the picture of eyeglasses on her "G" block.

Still One Small Girl

Today's outfit is size 12 months and frankly is still too big for her. But it is on the warm side and was a gift and Christine was afraid she'll be too big for it by the fall. I hope that ends up being true. Hailey is still one tiny girl. She has her pediatrician appointment in a little over two weeks so we'll see what the doctor thinks of her growth or lack thereof.

Lots of Laughter

Tonight Hailey was full of energy, bouncing around her room laughing. She was jumping on her bears, rolling over backwards, etc. A couple of times she came close to hitting her head on her crib and dresser and I was sure the good times would end with her getting hurt and crying. Thankfully that did not happen and she slowly tired herself out while staying in a good mood.

(Today's pictures are from her quieter moments.)
