Today marked the end of Hailey's 100% milk diet. Every feeding Hailey has received until today has been milk based. Yes, the milk has been mixed with formula to fortify her diet with additional calories but no water formula mix has been used. However, Hailey is now drinking more per bottle than Christine gets per pumping.
So, while there is still a stockpile in the freezer, from when Christine was pumping more than Hailey ate, it is dwindling rapidly. In order to stretch the milk supply out and get Hailey used to the formula, today we switched to a 3 to 1 ratio of fortified milk to water formula mix.
I am VERY proud of my wife for making it seven and half months before this became necessary.
Hailey's first feeding of milk was on August 10th. (Prior to that she was given sugar water as she was not ready for food.)
With the nice weather today we decided to take Hailey outside for a few minutes. This was our first attempt to take her outside on purpose, as opposed to a mad dash to the car to take her somewhere. We ended up spending more time bundling her up than we spent outside. It was still a little windy and she did not want to open her eyes due to the bright sun. I guess this should not have been a surprise since she often shuts her eyes when we walk past the kitchen window in the late afternoon. We decided if she was not going to look around there was not much point in exposing her to the elements and took her back inside.
