Today marked Hailey's first visit to the Minnesota State Fair. It was a long day, over 12 hours on the fair grounds, but there was only one time where her crying was not instantly solved by being held.
That happened right away when Christine took her on the Giant Slide first thing in the morning. Hailey started crying about half way down, but of course the slide does not last long so she was fine again in no time.
Hailey got to taste test three fair foods. First she tried a few tiny bits of Sweet Martha's Cookies. She was not sure what to make of that. Later, tiny bits of Tiny Tim Mini-Donuts were not well received at all. I did not think they were that good either.
The real winner for her was the Kiwanis Chocolate Malt. While it might be an exageration to say she could have eaten the whole thing, since she really only got about a tablespoon worth, she ate it better than any baby food we have given her. She opened wide for each tiny spoonful.
Hailey got to spend a little time in the animal barns but they seemed a little chaotic and overwhelming for her so we did not stay in them long. She got to pet a chick, and see cows, goats, chickens and horses up close before we decided she needed to be back outside. Later in the day she got to see the butterfly house. She liked the butterflies a little too much and kept reaching for their wings.
While we were on our own for most of the day, just the three of us and 207,075 of our closest friends, we spent a little time in the late morning with Grandpa Bruce.
