Pool

After resting up most of the day from yesterday's State Fair visit, we visited friends this evening. We tried to get Hailey to dip her feet in their pool but she was not at all interested. As soon as she was lowered enough for her feet to touch the water she instantly kicked her feet up.

First Visit to the State Fair

Today marked Hailey's first visit to the Minnesota State Fair. It was a long day, over 12 hours on the fair grounds, but there was only one time where her crying was not instantly solved by being held.

That happened right away when Christine took her on the Giant Slide first thing in the morning. Hailey started crying about half way down, but of course the slide does not last long so she was fine again in no time.

Hailey got to taste test three fair foods. First she tried a few tiny bits of Sweet Martha's Cookies. She was not sure what to make of that. Later, tiny bits of Tiny Tim Mini-Donuts were not well received at all. I did not think they were that good either.

The real winner for her was the Kiwanis Chocolate Malt. While it might be an exageration to say she could have eaten the whole thing, since she really only got about a tablespoon worth, she ate it better than any baby food we have given her. She opened wide for each tiny spoonful.

Hailey got to spend a little time in the animal barns but they seemed a little chaotic and overwhelming for her so we did not stay in them long. She got to pet a chick, and see cows, goats, chickens and horses up close before we decided she needed to be back outside. Later in the day she got to see the butterfly house. She liked the butterflies a little too much and kept reaching for their wings.

While we were on our own for most of the day, just the three of us and 207,075 of our closest friends, we spent a little time in the late morning with Grandpa Bruce.

Friday in the Park

Hailey and I went for a walk in a park this morning. She is starting to show some interest in the playground equipment so we walked all around the slides and bridges and monkey bars.

I tried putting her in a baby swing but she did not seem to be enjoying it so we switched to swinging together on a regular swing after a few minutes. The regular swing went much better to the point that I don't think she ever would have wanted to stop.

Frogs

With Hailey having slept through the night all but once since the flattening of her crib, and with the monitor now under control, I am hopefully mentioning the crib change for the last time saying all went well for the second night in a row.

In addition to the frog in our pond, Hailey has two frog friends that hang out in the shade of her slide at Grandma and Grandpa's.

Peaceful Night

The third night was indeed the charm as Hailey slept through the night and the monitor worked all night without a false alarm. When Christine woke her this morning she was sleeping like she often did in the sling with her hands behind her head.

Hailey also slept over four hours during her various naps at Grandma and Grandpa's house including some time in her highchair.

Hailey's new food this evening was Banana Plum Grape. Night two with the sippy cup proved unsuccessful.

Hailey's new robe is actually the first clothing item we bought her last summer when Christine was pregnant. Two cute little robes were on the clearance rack and so we got one for her and one for her brother. Words, at least mine, do not do justice to the concept that we miss him dearly.

Size 2-3

Night two in the flat crib, without the danny sling, was also not a complete success. Once again the monitor settings were still not quite right so the alarm went off again. This time it was shut off for the night after that first false alarm. We tweaked it again this evening so hopefully the third time's the charm.

Before the false alarm Hailey woke up and cried at the top of her lungs for about ten minutes. This is a much bigger concern than the alarm which we can fix. Hailey waking up we can't fix. We are so spoiled with her sleeping through the night we really don't want to go back.

Today Hailey moved up a diaper size, this time to 2-3, the largest in the Pampers Swaddlers Newborn diaper line. They are big on her so I'm guessing she will be able to stay in these for awhile.

This evening Hailey tried a sippy cup for the first time. There will be a learning curve on this one.

Hailey's new food today was Rice & Mixed Fruit Cereal.
