Christine's Recovery

1,270 grams = 2 pounds 13 ounces

Today we went to the Bandana Square Aspen Clinic for Christine's six week checkup. Various tests which may or may not point to the reason for the early delivery are not all back. She was given a prescription for Reglan which should help her produce more milk. Between the early delivery and the stress of the last six weeks her milk production is borderline low.

Other than that she was given a clean bill of health and can slowly get back into the swing of regular activities. Some of her current soreness may take a year or so to dissipate but that is considered normal.

Hailey continues to gain weight and every so often, like today, the staff gets concerned enough about rapid weight gain that they give her the diuretic Lasix. It definitely did the trick today as one of her diapers weighed 51 grams which is over 4% of her body weight.

Yesterday in rounds it was decided to take Hailey off the Atrovent nebulizer since the feeling was that the changes that had been made in vent settings were the reason for her breathing improvement, not the Atrovent. We missed rounds today so we didn't hear the discussion but the Atrovent is back on her chart as part of the normal routine.

Again we got lucky with our timing and managed to avoid the protesters. Had I worked today and arrived at the hospital at my normal time I would have been trying to drive through a standoff that took place on the John Ireland Bridge.

Had Christine been back to work at her office in The First National Bank building she would have been there when according to a WCCO story, management warned its tenants of "riotous conditions" and suggested employees be allowed to leave early. (On Monday one of her coworkers was in the office and saw protesters trying unsuccessfully to break the windows where Christine works. Windows of other businesses in the building were shattered that day.)

Our route home tonight was detoured as all the downtown ramps were closed. We were diverted to Dale and could only go 94 West from there.
