Early Childhood Session #10

During last week's OT session there was concern about tightness in Hailey's arms and shoulders. So, we were given the homework assignment to work on stretching her arms up and out as far as she could go. In order to elicit her cooperation we are supposed to go slow and make little chugging noises as we stretch her arms each little "click."

After a week of doing this I am not certain if there is actual tightness in the left arm, the harder of the two to stretch, or if she is just stronger in that arm and likes to prove it. Either way there has been definite progress in her letting us and/or her being able to stretch that arm.

Today I noticed that she has gotten to the point of anticipating what is about to happen. First, she smiles as soon as we start. Then she immediately looks up and to her left in anticipation of the arm ending up next to her face.

This week's new assignments are in preparation of her rolling over on her own. Due to spring break Hailey will not have a session next week. Her occupational therapist thinks that by the time of the next session in two weeks Hailey will indeed be rolling.
