Last year we spent a few hours away from the hospital on a Saturday at the State Fair. This year we spent the better part of the day.
We left Hailey with her grandparents but plan to take her next weekend. It marks just the fourth time since the end of her house arrest that we "did not bring her with us." Those other times were not really a choice as the hospital memorial service and Cirque du Soleil were not age appropriate and her need to sleep in a danny sling prevented overnight camping from being an option. So in a sense this was our first time to choose not to take her someplace. It was a little weird but knowing we are taking her next weekend made it easier to enjoy.
While at the fair we met up with Christine's brother and sister-in-law for a little bit but spent most of the time on our own hitting our usual spots and checking out a few new things along the way.
Two of the foods we tried for the first time this year have made it on to the must list for the future: the Wild Rice Hamburger (best hamburger I've had this year) and the Nitro Ice Cream are both in the northeast corner of the Food Building.
