We slept in this morning which of course meant we received a phone call from the hospital. Some of the news was good. The spinal tap results take 48 hours but the preliminary results at 24 hours were coming up clean. Also, the CRP number was down from yesterday.
However, the hospital never calls to say all is well. They were calling to let us know that the blood drawn yesterday (this was done in addition to the spinal tap) had come back positive for bacteria. That bacteria will continue to grow in the blood sample for the next few days at which point they will know what specific bacteria it is and then will switch her to the best antibiotic for that particular bacteria. For now she will continue to get the two antibiotics they started yesterday.
Later, when we were at the hospital, it was discovered that her foot IV line had a leak. Some, maybe all, of the last dose of antibiotics had not gotten into her. Since there was no way to determine how much or how little of the antibiotic she received they could not risk giving her more. They took out the IV line from her left foot and then put in a new one in her right leg. Around midnight tonight she will get her next regularly scheduled dose of the antibiotics.
This afternoon Hailey was visited by her grandparents Ken & Rachel.
This evening Christine and I headed out to the State Fair. We had never gone into the butterfly building before but Christine wanted to because of the poem that we read at Ryan's funeral which has this line...
Until the day you join me here,
I'll love you mommy and daddy, oh so dear.
Each breeze you feel and butterfly you see,
brings love and kisses straight from me.
