Logan enjoyed his night at Grandma and Grandpa's, sleeping in until 9am.
Today Hailey made her fourth trip to the NICU Follow-Up Clinic. It had originally been scheduled for November but Hailey was sick at that time.
Hailey did very well during the Bailey tests. When tested on things we know she can do, she did them. She got to show off just about everything she does except name the letters of the alphabet, which did not come up in the test. She plateaued in the language section on action verbs. She would point to the right picture for words like pool or water but not when the word swimming was used.
Her lowest score came in gross motor skills where she is unskilled in standing on one foot and jumping among other things. This brought us into a discussion on the way she walks.
Hailey has been wearing shoe inserts for several months "all of the time." However, when watching her walk barefoot at bed time or first thing in the morning we have not noticed an improvement yet.
The staff watched her walk and run up and down the hall barefoot and were also concerned. Ironically they observed, as have we, that the faster she goes the better her foot position. Their conclusion was that we need to take her to Gillette Children's Hospital for their expert opinion.
The next NICU Follow-Up visit will be in July.

BAYLEY SCALES OF INFANT DEVELOPMENT
In the previous visits, all scores were based on a bell curve for the adjusted age at the time of the test with a normal score at the top of the bell equaling 100 and with one standard deviation being 85 on the low side and 115 on the high side. Any score between 85 and 115 is considered normal.
Today, for the first time, Hailey's bell curve scores are against children her actual age.
