Hailey turned 100 days old today, and while she is very close to coming home she still faces two hurdles.
First, she failed another car seat test today. They did not make her sit in the seat for the whole hour as she started desating early in the test. It is looking like they will send her home in a car seat bed, which is not a great option for her since she does not do well when lying flat due to her reflux, but it may be the only option.
Second, she is losing weight. Christine is now undergoing a twenty four hour experiment of pumping, then breastfeeding, then pumping while Hailey bottle feeds. Sort of triple the work each time. Hailey is getting weighed before and after eating. Milk is being tested for calories, etc.
Although this won't keep her from coming home, the health of her eyes is an ongoing concern. Since we may be in the hospital on Thursday, the day of her scheduled outpatient eye exam, Dr. Quiram came to Children's this evening to exam Hailey. It was generally good news. The bad blood vessels that were zapped in the second surgery have all regressed. No new bad blood vessels have appeared. The blood in her eyes has gone away, absorbed by her body.
Of some concern is scar tissue sitting on the right retina. The next few weeks will be critical. The scar tissue could go away on its own or it could start to put pressure on the retina which could lead to the retina detaching. She will be observed closely with the next exam likely to be next Tuesday at the doctor's Oakdale office.
This afternoon Hailey was visited by her Grandpa Bruce. This evening we went in with Megan on pizza from Pizza Luce. (We ate in our separate break rooms to keep from violating fraternization rules.)
