Our Baby Girl is Home

2,634 grams = 5 pounds 13 ounces

It is still a little hard to believe but Hailey really did come home today.

This morning in rounds Dr. Mammel, the doctor who tried to save Ryan's life in his final moments on earth, decided it was safe for Hailey to go home today. Charity called Christine who called me. We met at home and drove down to Children's.

There were a few changes put through this morning. Potassium was added to her list of milk additives. And there was one last switch in bottles, back to the Playtex VentAire Advanced. Yesterday's change was made when a non-primary nurse was working. When her primaries heard they got it switched back.

After a few trips to the car, and a stop in the pharmacy, it was time to say goodbye. Rev. Dee prayed with us, causing us both to cry when her prayer turned to Ryan. Christine cried again when we said our final goodbye to Charity outside the NICU.

We stopped for a brief moment at the cemetery and then drove the rest of the way home.

Hailey seemed very content in her car seat bed, with Christine sitting beside her. For the foreseeable future every trip outside the home, which will be limited exclusively to medical appointments, is a two person job as one of us needs to sit in the back seat watching Hailey.

Hailey's medical calendar is filling up quickly. Tomorrow someone is coming to the house to weigh her. Friday someone else will be here to give her a RSV shot. Monday at 8am we are back at Children's for some lab work. Then Monday at 9am she has her first pediatrician appointment in Maplewood. Tuesday she has her eye exam in Oakdale.

My parents stopped in for a little while to see Hailey. Hailey's Grandma Rachel held her for the first time.

Hailey's room is much as we left it before she was born. It is not decorated or painted, it still has a second crib (which we will be moving to the living room), etc. But it is a safe place for her to sleep, be fed and changed and for now that is all that matters.
