Swing Set

The main action today took place away from the watchful eyes of Hailey and Logan. One of my cousins gave us her family's swing set. My dad and I went down to get it and thankfully had an almost adventure free drive back. A few feet onto the highway I could tell that one part of the set was not tied down well enough, so we pulled over and secured it.

Just to be safe we pulled over a second time several miles down the road and saw that the slide had slid and was literally hanging on by a thread of rope. This time we had plenty of shoulder space and so we redid all the bungee cords and rope. The rest of the way the whole set seemed to shake a little more but it was now shaking as one unit and everything ended up exactly where we had put in during the last stop.

It is now fully assembled and ready for Hailey to check out on Monday. I'm not sure if she will put two and two together to understand this is the swing set she played on earlier this summer.

Best First Book Ever!

Hailey had a three hour nap today but that made a second nap a non-starter which in turn made her a little tired this evening. I got out a new book Logan had just been given - Richard Scarry's Best First Book Ever! - and that totally enthralled her. There are tons of objects on each page and Hailey was in full pointing mode. We ended up just staying on the inside cover the whole time.

Logan wanted to drink a lot this evening. Next week we'll start sending more milk for him to have during the day.

Marketfest

Swimming and sliding fast continue to be Hailey's favorite daytime pursuits.

Grandma and Grandpa are adjusting to the demands of Logan on their time.

Tonight we took the kids to the last Marketfest of the year in White Bear Lake. Hailey enjoyed watching the kids on the bungee tethered trampoline jumps the most but had a good time looking at everything and everyone. She also pointed out every balloon she saw. She ate chocolate chip cookies and french fries but was not interested in the pork sandwich. She also drank her fair share of our lemonade.

Logan woke up near the end of our time there so I fed him a bottle of breast milk while Christine and Hailey walked over to the bandstand.

Hailey's Two Year Checkup

Weight: 9,837 grams = 21 pounds 11 ounces
2.01 Percentile for her age
7.03 Percentile for her height
(Hailey at Eighteen Months: 8,501 grams = 17 pounds 12 ounces)

Height: 81.9 cm = 32.25 inches
13.11 Percentile for her age
(Hailey at Eighteen Months 74.9 cm = 29.5 inches)

Head Circumference: 46.3 cm = 18.21 inches
20.09 Percentile for her age
(Hailey at Eighteen Months: 45.5 cm = 17.91 inches)

Body Mass Index: 14.66 kg/(m^2)
8.09 Percentile for her age

Our biggest concern for Hailey going into today's pediatrician visit was her right foot. When Hailey walks her right foot is pointed out much more than her left and she doesn't always walk with it completely flat. This behavior is even more pronounced when she is riding on a push toys. On those her foot goes out almost 90 degrees.

Dr. Gendreau watched her walk and then examined her feet and legs. She is fairly confidant that this will self correct. She said there is no stiffness in the muscles causing this and that both the left and right feet and legs feel exactly the same. If we have not seen improvement by October we will call her and she will either see Hailey and/or directly send her to Gillette.

For milk we will transition from whole to skim.

For vitamins we will switch from the poly-vi-sol with iron to the regular version without iron. Or, if Hailey will eat them, we will switch to gummy multi-vitamins.

Hailey will continue to get Miralax.

I had thought we were done with vaccinations until she turned five but today she received one that can be given at any time from age two to age five: PV13 - Pneumococcal Vaccine 13 Valent IM.

Tonight Hailey said a new word: time. I was reading her the Pajama Time book and was reading the line "It's Pajama Time." I had only gotten out the word "It's" when she chimed in "time." She then repeated the word several times in the remaining minutes before her bedtime.

Logan Is No Longer a Newborn

Logan slept eight hours again last night and actually had to be woken up to get ready to go to Grandma and Grandpa's.

Logan is all but done with newborn clothes. He only has one newborn onesie that still fits. He has a few more 0-3 items that he can wear but has started wearing 3 month items. 3 month pants are still way too big but being summer pants are usually not needed.

Day two of Hailey's pool was a big hit. She is also spending a lot more time on her little slide as she has discovered she goes much faster while wearing a wet swimsuit. Also a big hit, the little puddles on the tarp around the pool.

Hailey is TWO!

Hailey is two years old today. Her celebration started right away when we arrived at Grandma and Grandpa's this morning. The decorations were there for her to see as well as her new pool, blown up but without water, sitting in the middle of the living room.

While we were at work Hailey had a great time playing in the pool, which was moved to the deck and filled with water.

I went over to surprise her at lunch but she was in the middle of a late morning nap. I did get to spend some time with Logan who was awake.

This evening Hailey got to swim again and then open the rest of her gifts. She needed help to get started on each package. She also became so enthralled with each gift that she required coaxing to open the next one.

After she opened a set of bowling pins she had the best time handing them all to Grandpa to hold, then taking them away one at a time to give to Grandma to hold.

Hailey's cake eating skills have increased dramatically over the last year. Tonight a fork was used and almost no clean up was required.

As with last year, we did our best to celebrate Hailey's birth today and save our time of reflection on the life of our precious little boy until the anniversary of his passing next week. The hardest time for me today was watching her having fun in front of the mirror. I couldn't help wishing she could be having that fun with Ryan instead of just her own reflection.
