2,650 grams = 5 pounds 13 ounces Greetings from the hospital. Hailey passed her C-R Scan, although not with flying colors. Dr. Lampland went over the results with Christine this morning. She had one spell during a bottle feeding in the middle of the night. Since we will be right there when she is feeding this is not a big enough concern to keep her in the hospital. In addition, the scan showed Hailey has "periodic breathing". Every so often she'll hold her breath for 10 seconds or so and then start breathing again. This is different than when she spells or desats during feedings. The doctor spoke with another neonatologist and a pulmonologist and they all feel Hailey can go home with this condition which she will eventually outgrow. There are medicines and monitors that we could be sent home with but they do not feel it is necessary. Looking back at Hailey's chart there have been no instances of Hailey needing assistance other than when feeding for a couple of weeks. Later, Christine got to practice giving the eye drops we will need to give Hailey at home right before we take her to her next eye exam, which has been rescheduled for next Thursday. With things remaining on track for Hailey to come home either Friday or Saturday, Christine drove home late afternoon so we could go down to the hospital together with just one car. We will both camp out here in her room until then. Up next is the car seat test which is scheduled for "early morning." Here at Children's they conduct this test on all babies born prior to 37 weeks. (Hailey was just 25 weeks at birth.) Hailey will need to sit in her car seat for up to two hours while she is observed. They will mainly look at how she holds her head, making sure she doesn't tilt it in ways that would obstruct her airway. If she fails this test she will not be going home this weekend. Then she will have her hearing test which she does not have to pass in order for us to leave. If she fails she will just need a retest at a later date. |
