At 1pm speech therapy came to Hailey's room to observe how she sucks, swallows and breathes while bottle feeding. They switched her bottle brand to Playtex VentAire Advanced which they think will help. Hopefully the third times the charm as she has already used two other brands with limited success.
At 2pm Christine and I and my parents had a class with a nurse going over reflux and infant CPR. In order to help Hailey deal with the reflux we will need to keep her elevated, like she is currently in her hospital crib, almost all the time. Flat on her back on the floor is no good as the stomach fluids will just naturally flow up her esophagus. Baby swings are out as the motion will cause her stomach fluids to slosh around and go up into the esophagus. Car seats are a necessary evil as the sitting position causes pressure on the stomach which yes causes stomach fluids to go up into the esophagus. Etc, etc, etc.
After class the four of us ate at The Liffey. This was our first time eating inside the restaurant as our two other visits were to their second floor terrace. The food was still good but a lot of the fun was lost eating inside.
This evening my cousin Lynn who works over at Children's Minneapolis visited Hailey. Right as she was getting ready to leave, Hailey had a spell. It was bad enough the nurse had to give Hailey oxygen. (Hailey was given oxygen one other time that we know of since she stopped being on oxygen 24/7 last Monday night.)
So, needless to say, Hailey is not coming home tomorrow. At this point we are back to not really knowing when she might come home. We did not get a chance to talk to a practitioner today so we are not sure what they are thinking at this point.
