This morning just before 7am Nichole and Charity woke us up to Hailey in her Halloween costume. It is a Princess outfit from Build-A-Bear plus socks decorated with metallic ribbon that Megan hand decorated. We went to breakfast at 8am. By the time we returned to the room Hailey had been taken downstairs to her tests. We went down to the testing area to check on her. We found out she had already passed her hearing test. The car test was just underway but she alarmed once in the few minutes we were there getting our car seat education. In addition to the basics of car seat safety, the technician explained the possible results from the test. 1) She could pass, 2) She could be borderline and need to go home in a car seat bed, or 3) She could fail and need to stay in the hospital. Hailey was brought back to her room around 9:45. Hailey had over 12 desats and a couple of spells. A few minutes later Dr. Lampland came to the room with her verdict. Hailey had failed. This failure puts the C-R Scan results in a slightly different light. Dr. Lampland laid out two options for us. Option one, do nothing and wait for her to grow out of this in the hospital. This could take weeks and the hospital wouldn't really be doing anything for her that we would not be able to do at home. The real downside is the higher chance of her getting sick in the hospital environment. Option two, start her on caffeine today and retest her on Monday. Assuming she passes we would take her home on Monday but need to give her caffeine for two weeks and hook her up to a monitor when she is sleeping for four weeks. We went with this second option. They were able to schedule monitor classes for us this afternoon. At 1pm we will learn about the actual hardware. At 2pm we learn about caring for Hailey on the monitor. |
