High CO2

2,065 grams = 4 pounds 9 ounces

Two separate blood gases this morning confirmed that Hailey's carbon dioxide levels were higher than they had been it the past. She had been averaging in the low 50's, but now she was in the high 60's.

High 60's can be okay if that had been what she had been averaging all along, but to see it shifting upward was a concern for the staff. So, she was moved back to High Flow. This also means that her feeding tube is back in her mouth, rather than her nose.

For whatever reason(s), the change to High Flow, the tube in her mouth, just plain being tired, or none of the above, breastfeeding did not go well today and Hailey was back to getting all of her food through the feeding tube.

Her heart rate dropped twice today that I saw on the monitors. I am pretty numb to the blood oxygen level going low or high as I see that "all the time." However, seeing the heart rate drop continues to be a scary experience each time it happens.

Hailey was visited this afternoon by her Grandpa Ken and Grandma Rachel.

Tonight she had another blood gas drawn and things looked better including the CO2 back down to an even 60. They will keep her on High Flow for now and see what happens.
