Hailey's eye exam was at around 6pm this evening and things look good. There is less blood in the eyes as her body is starting to absorb it and the bad blood vessels are starting to regress. Dr. Quiram was very happy with the results of last week's surgery. There is still a 10% chance that more work will be needed, and she will be seen on a regular basis by Dr. Quiram until approximately week 50 (another 13 weeks). The next exam will be in one week.
Hailey started bottle feeding overnight. She bottle fed her entire 10pm and 4am feedings. She then breastfed her entire 1pm and 4pm feedings today. This sudden leap forward in eating has the potential to drastically change her expected discharge date to as early as Halloween.
There is a bit of a scramble now to get us in the three classes we need to take before she does go home.
If she goes home that quickly she will most likely be on oxygen. However, at 7:40 tonight I noticed that she had pulled her oxygen tube out of her nose. I glanced at her monitor and she was sating at 97%. Christie was in the room and let me keep the oxygen out of her nose to see how long she could go. (Yesterday Charity had tried something similar but Hailey dropped her blood oxygen saturation level in less than 15 minutes.)
I was hoping she could go for 20 minutes. She did. So then I was hoping for 30 minutes. She passed that mark as well. This kept going and going. At the 1 hour 5 minute mark she alarmed for the first time but quickly came back up on her own. We left at 9:40 when she passed the two hour mark. (We hadn't eaten dinner as we planned to leave early and eat at home, or else we probably would have stayed until she finally needed oxygen.)
Yes, it looks like Hailey is wearing the same clothes since Saturday but that really isn't true. She was wearing the brown and pink Saturday night and into Sunday but then went through a series of changes between Sunday evening and this afternoon. Nichole's favorite outfit is the one in the pictures and it is also the only outfit we have two of so low and behold Hailey's back in brown and pink.
Hailey was visited this afternoon by Deanna. She and Christine had lunch at the Seventh Heaven Coffee Shop.
